The Sheriff's Model gained legendary status because it was famously preferred by Wild Bill Hickok, who carried paired cap-and-ball 1851 Navies tucked into a sash or belt. Western lawmen, and merchants favored a more compact, snub-nosed version of the belt pistol that would clear a holster or coat easier when sitting or walking in town. This revolver was a huge part of shaping the west, and probably in more gunfights than a cowboy movie marathon.
