The highly sought after Starr Revolver was first introduced in the western theater of the Civil War by Colt Firearms, the original design (like this one) was a double-action revolver. The United States Army Ordnance Department persuaded the Starr Arms Co. to create a single-action variant after the discontinuation of the Colt. The company complied, and the Union acquired 25,000 of them. Later Starr Arms, made their version of the double-action.
